Port replicator doesn't work

Hi,
for a few days I have two systems running on my D820 - Linux Feisty Fawn and WinXP. Accept for a few typical things everthing works fine except my port replicator. Each time I dock my notebook I neither get a signal on my monitor nor a sound on my monitor (it has speakers). In WinXP everything works fine. I just do not know how to configure Linux correctly.
Does anyone knows a proper way to fix the problem?
Thx for your help.

der_gottt,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

I do not believe that there is any support for the port replicator in Linux FeistyFawn. I am checking to make certain. Once I find out I will reply back to this post.

If you boot your laptop (in Linux) attached to the port replicator does the monitor come on? Is this a USB port replicator or a docking station-style replicator? If it is USB you'll need to configure a separate "display" in your xorg.conf file (which isn't too hard if you google for it) and you'll need to select the proper sound device in the sound mixer application (since it will send sound to your laptop's speakers/jacks by default).

By default the X server should just replicate your laptop screen on the external monitor (if it is a docking station). You don't need any extra configuration for this.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I have a docking station-style replicator and my monitor unfortunatly does not come on while booting. At least the screen becomes dark as soon as linux asks me to enter my username. I think it is a problem in my xconf. But I do not have any idea. Can anybody help?
