Could you give me the exact kernel error as you see on your screen?

The frustration is that the error flys by pretty quickly. I rebooted with the rescue CD, and between starting fresh and a number of iterations have realized I must have messed up one of the partitioning options. Essentially, it wasn't reformating all or part of the disk.

At this point I've done a minimal install with Logical volumes under FC4 successfully.

Thanks for the reply,
Wolfman Luke

Well I wish I could be more help, I use Linux - Mandrake, Redhat, Knoppix, but never have used FC.  I do know that sometimes Linux can be a pain to install.  I have an older machine that I put mandrake on, it took quite a few installs before I finally had everything right.  I guess patience is the key as they say.

Good luck, you may want to google FC4 and see if you can find anyone with a similar situation.

hello, I have a Dimension 2350. I get Kernal errors during FC3 FC4 FC1 yoper and LBA install. The last line shown before freeze states <6>Universal Serial ........V2.2. ctrl alt delete and it sends terminating signal so its not a total freeze up. Its an 845GL chipset part# 7W080.

I realize I forgot to post the resolution to my problem (unfortunately it may not be much help on the 2350 problem)

In the end, I think I failed to check enough boxes to get the windows partitions wiped from the machine. I stepped back and worked my way back to a full install and in the process managed to get the partitions properly defined and formatted.

I do have a problem with an updated kernel where I get a kernel crash if I have an audio CD in the CD drive at the time of boot, but that's a different issue.

What do you have hooked up at boot that is a usb device...generally speaking when installing an OS, well Linux anyway, it is usually a good idea to unhook all usb devices (mice, printers, whatever).  If you have none hooked up, write back and let me know and we will investigate further.

Try installing with a comand and enter Linux nousb

That should skip a check of usb devices completely and will let us know if that is really a problem.  All those numbers probably mean something, but I wouldn't be sure.

The 1 distro i didnt try was Debian 30r4. It is currently installing packages. If it fails or is successful, I will do the "linux nousb" to see the results so we can solve this issue for others also. I will try this today.

debian seemed to install fine but couldnt run xserver properly (X11 settings), not worried. I tried to "linux nousb" and got this:

SGI XFS with ACLS, security attributes, large block numbers, no debug enabled
SGI XFS Quota Management Subsystem
device-mapper: 4.4.0-ioct (2005-01-12) initialised: dm-devel@redhat.com
parport: PnPBIOS parport detected
parport0: Pc-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP, TRISTATE, EPP]

CTRL ALT DEL SEND TERMINATE SIGNAL AND THE SYSTEM REBOOTS.

Well, are you going to be able to get a linux distribution to work? Honestly I am stumped on the original problem, I am wondering if it is even a usb problem at all. If we could read what all those numbers meant, we would be in good shape, I am going to have to do some more research on this one...if you come up with a solution definately post, as will I.

I am having the same problem as the other guy with the Dell Dimension 2350. When I attempt an install by just pressing enter, I get the following crash info immediately following "/sbin/loader" and a flash:

Then if I attempt an install using: "linux nousb", It hangs on the last line after leaving the check disk:

device-mapper: 4.4.0-ioctl (2005-01-12) initialised: dm-devel@redhat.com
parport: PnPBIOS parport detected
parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP, TRISTATE, EPP]

Some other perhaps pertinent information:

1) I have a PCI GeForce FX graphics card installed as the motherboard does not have and AGP slot.

2) I initially tried to install while using a USB keyboard and mouse. The keyboard seemed to work because I could press enter.

3) I have since tried detaching the USB devices and use a normal PS2 keyboard and mouse with the same problem.

NOTE: I have also checked the BIOS and it seems to be the latest version A02
