Request: XPS-13 Developer Edition Configurations

I'd like to buy the new XPS-13 developer edition. But Dell doesn't provide the configuration I want in the USA, though it is available in other areas or with Windows not Ubuntu.

1st choice config: FHD screen, i7 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

2nd choice is like 1st, but with i5 CPU.

The problem is, currently if you want an i7 processor or big SSD, you have to get the QHD screen. I don't want the QHD screen because (1) Shorter battery life, (2) Want the same resolution on the built-in screen as my big monitor, which is 1920x1080, (3) FHD screen goes brighter, (4) I don't like touch screens, (5) more expensive.

So this request is: please offer the i7 processor and 256 GB SSD with the FHD screen. Thanks!

Today I saw you added a new config: FHD + i5 + 256GB SSD.

I'd prefer the i7, but the i5 is good enough.

Thanks - I just placed my order.

Glad it worked out :)

Thanks for listening, unfortunately my hand was forced by a hardware failure and I purchased the windows version of this new configuration about three weeks ago. I wiped it and put ubuntu gnome 15.04 on it right away, loving it so far :)

Thanks Dell for listening.

Hoping the i7 config comes through too.

Looks like Dell listened. You still can't get a Core i7 with the FHD screen, but you can at least get a bigger SSD. A new $1049 configuration upgrades to 256GB without the costly screen upgrade.

Thanks.

Now if only my i5/8GB/128GB config would ship ;-)

Hi folks,

looks like the high-res, 512gb ssd version of the developer edition is no longer available :-(  I just ordered the windows version in order to get those specs, but I intend to wipe it when it arrives and install ubuntu 15.04.  Just wanted my vote for sputnik to count somehow, thus I am posting here...

cheers,

-Ted

I'd also love to buy an XPS 13 developer edition with maxed out performance and no touch-screen. I'm a developer on the go and I need the best battery/performance config. I have no need for a touch screen.
