Shiny New Dell 6400n Ubuntu 7.04... Some Problems..!!

I have a 6400n and it is perfect.

No just installed the 915resolution...resolution modification tool for Intel graphic chips from synaptic package manager then rebooted and hey presto I had 1280x800 when I logged back in.

Well, I didn't. I followed the wiki, and it is perfect.

Looks a bit too technical for me at this stage... When you say yours is perfect linicks.. is your 5 in 1 media card slot working ok.? Can you get your shared graphics to use more than 8mb in the bios.? I cannot and as it states on their website (Dells) that it is upto 256mb shared I don't think it's very good.... What is yours set at in the bios..? :)

I don't know where you get the 8MB shared bit from. The video card has 256MB, so BIOS ghared memory will never be used, I expect. In the old days when video cards had only only a little RAM (like 1MB ~ 4MB) shared system memroy was a hack to get around that. modern cards don't really need it.

My card uses full wack:

As to the 5in1 media card slot, I haven't ay media cards to test it with, so I don't know if it works or not. There are some issues though (typical post found on the Internet):

Hi Linicks, Thanks for reply.. I got 8mb info from bios from the first section at the top of the screen. What do I type into the terminal to find out if mine is using the full 256mb..?? Thanks Yanski

My guess is that is due to you using the 810 driver, and not the Intel driver.

Have a read of this to install the intel driver:
