This thread is ancient but given I just ran into it and others still might I'll share my steps which are most likely now considerably easier. My keyboard was originally detected as Generic 105 by Debian 10. I ran dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-layout, selected Dell 102 keyboard from the list and consequently US intl layout with dead keys and that did the trick.

Found a fix yet? Have a similar prob yet running wXP Pro with my GX280 and (basic) SK-8115 kboard.
