Touchpad/nipple selection D610

I have a DELL lattitude D610.
When I boot Suse9.2 the touchpad becomes active and the nipple doesn't work.
I would like to use the nipple and disable the touchpad.
How do I do this?

Normally, the touchpad driver handles this.  An option is offered under the Windows driver where you can disable one or the other.

I know, but I am using linux.
The standard mouse driver of linux suse9.2 behaves strange:
Sometimes the nipple works, sometimes not. The touchpad always works but has "clicking by tapping" enabled, which I really hate.
