Here is an update to my previous post.  When I installed Skype, I had been using my Mini 9 for about a week.  The computer had a chance ot run the Update Manager and all updates were up to date.  Today I tried reinstalling my operating system from the Dell recovery disc.  The installation was smooth and straightforward after I borrowed my neighbor's USB CDROM drive.  After reinstalling my system, I tried to reinstall Skype.  I got an error message saying that 'i386' was the wrong platform.  I checked the Update Manager and the last update was 168 days ago, probably the date the recovery disc was made.  I clicked on Check for Updates and waited.  It took over an hour to get all of the updates.  At the end I was asked to reboot.  I tried installing Skype again after the reboot.  This time Skype installed just fine and I was able to make a test call again.

I want to pass this on too.  Make sure to run Update Manager and get all of the latest updates BEFORE you try to install Skype.
