trying to convert from an XP machine to Ubuntu
The actual conversion was easy and I am now running Ubuntu on my box. The most obvious problem most people seem to have with the install is Ubuntu (9.04) does not appear to recognize many of the hardware peripherals. At this point I would be content to get the wifi working, but this seems to be harder than first glance. I have an Inspiron 530 with a Dell 1505 Wireless-N PCIe Card, and I cannot find a linux driver for this device anywhere. Anyone shed some light?
Thanks
-Bill

Using Windows Wireless Drivers
Ubuntu supports a system known as NDISWrapper. This allows you to use a Windows wireless device driver under Ubuntu.
Obtain the Windows Driver for your system and locate the file that ends with
.inf.Install ndisgtk (System → Administration → Synaptic Package Manager).
Open ndisgtk (System → Administration → Windows Wireless Drivers).
Select Install new driver.
Choose the location of your Windows .inf file and click Install.
Click OK.

ndiswrapper is definitely worth trying.
It might have changed, but last I heard, ndiswrapper can't use Vista driver files.

Thanks for posting that. I considered upgrading to 9.04, but now I'll stick with 8.04 LTS.
