Upgrade from dell 9.04 to 9.10

after upgrading to dell ubuntu 9.04 iso I attempted via update manager to upgrade to 9.10, was asked during upgrade if i wanted to keep dell image being new to ubuntu didn't no what to says so pressed continue and received various error messages after install, is thier anything I should be doing to just get clean upgrade to 9.10
