do you have sound working on your machine? i can't get the integrated audio working. i can see the sound card, but no sound is coming out at all. any settings you could give me would be appreciated. i have alsa, alsaconf, and SuSE 8.1.
not yet tried to intall linux on my dell machine. in my earlier attempts at using red hat 9.0 on an assembled pc I could get sound to work in simplex mode using a utility called soundconfig or sth. been a while ...

figured it out:
1)alsa mutes everything--to unmute in alsamixer...type 'M' on each channel...the "MM" about each channel says it's muted in alsamixer
2)i don't think i actually used alsaconf (although i'm not sure)
3)be sure the correct devices are in the /dev directory...i think you have to run alsa's sounddevices (or snddevices or something like that)
4)./configure for the intel-8x0 device (use the proper "--" option)
