Well. As I left the computer off long enough to write this post, I pressed the boot button and sure enough I am able to boot up like nothing happened.

Disconcerting issue nonetheless, if this sounds familiar please point me in the right direction, or let me know if I can be of service so we can fix this issue!

Current status: Every time I click "restart" on my computer, it shuts down but does not boot up. I have to let it "cooldown" for like 10-15 minutes before touching the power, then it will post.

If I hit the power button too early, the keyboard backlight will turn on and usb power will go through, but no Dell bios / post / splash screen.

Lots of relief to see that Dell screen after the power button not doing anything the first couple of tries. ;)

Hi Barton,

I'm in the US. Wasn't aware of prosupport... I filed a ticket / email with Dell Enterprise just now and expecting to hear a response.

Thanks.

Great, let me know if you have any issues.

Have the EXACT same issue with my XPS 13. Every reboot / restart the computer goes blank. Leave it sit for an hour or so and it boots. It drops wifi networks, printers etc just on its on. To get the printer to work you have to delete and reinstall which requires a reboot and another hour wait. Keyboard lights up but no fan, motor or HD activity.

Yes I called the support line which walked me through testing to see if the issue was software related then another department to determine it was hardware related. The laptop finally booted up and ran a diagnostic test and all components tested fine and at that point I was told there have been motherboard issues and the diagnostic does not test that. They are sending me a box so that I can ship the laptop to a service depot to have it looked at. Being without the laptop for 2 or 3 weeks will be a huge setback.

I just had this issue last week, and the worse thing is I had it while travelling overseas.

I am unable to power on the XPS on that morning (keyboard LED light for a split second, and then off, have not even reached the DELL logo splash screen). I was on full battery, and even tried to hook up the AC but the response is the same. I immediately contacted DELL for support and they arranged for service to be done when I'm back.

Weird tho, when I try again at that night, the XPS boots up as usual, and so far it is back to normal. I still do not know what had caused the weird behavior.

My machine stopped booting whatsoever with the same symptoms above and sent it back to Dell in mid-November. I went back and forth with Dell Prosupport for 5 weeks and nearly lost a hard drive. Unfortunately, as much as I liked the machine, my support experience was very sad, so I asked for and was granted a refund for the computer (minus a restocking fee).

I am begrudgingly back on an Apple MBP for now because of its superior reliability.

I have the same issue with my computer. Any info on how to fix this? And before I am asked - No, I have not contacted support because this issue has only recently started for me and I am off warrantee.

The issue with mine was the mainboard. Called Dell support, they sent me a box and had it back to me in about 10 days.

I have exactly the same problem. When I press the power button, either the comupter boots nicely (this happens 1/10 of the time), or the keyboard lights for a second and then nothing happens (this happens 9/10 of the time). It seems to happen randomly.

I called ProSupport about this issue. Luckily the computer booted that time, and with their help on the phone I launched the complete diagnostic tests. The tests didn't find anything wrong. ProSupport told me the problem was the motherboard, which had to be changed.

I had the motherboard changed. This was 2 weeks ago. But the problem is still there. There is no improvement. So it seems the problem is elsewhere.

Exact issue as above posts, mine works one out of 50 times, the rest of the time power comes on but it won't boot, keyboard illuminates and power pass through USB .  4 month out of warranty, previously replaced motherboard for fan issue.  Nice laptop but regretting the purchase now...
