A simple question for Alienware Respawn

Hi there,

I have wiped my respawn partition from my Alienware M17x and I just would love to bring it back. I have received a Respawn DVD along with my Alienware. The problem is that no matter in which drive I put this DVD, it seems to be blank. My question is, can this DVD be truly blank or is it that it is tailored to work ONLY with AlienRespawn partition and somehow all other systems just seem to can't recognize the image in the DVD and therefore appear as blank to them? If it is really blank, then my question is WHY did I ordered to receive an AlienRespawn DVD if I had to burn it myself? Can somebody please help me on this?

Thanks in advance, Angelos

Hello Danboy2009!

Are you booting from the Alienrespawn DVD or you are just trying to open the files?

If you want to do a factory image you need to restart the computer press F12 and boot directly from the DVD.

Hi Milena and thanks for replying on this.

Well that is actually my problem. Whenever I tried to boot from the AlienRespawn DVD, nothing happens (like its empty).

I am able to boot with Windows Repair Disk (which I have made on my own) if I want, but not with AlienRespawn DVD.

Is it possible that the AlienRespawn DVD arrived blank to me with a purpose to record it myself?

Sound little strange if this is the case....

Thanks again.

The DVD are end of life however you can do the Alienrespawn base on this article  if that doesn't work you might need to re install the operating system with the windows cd.

I think I know the DVD your talking about.

You have a M17x (R1)  or R2 is that right?

If so then the DVD your referring to is an upgrade for the Alienrespawn that was installed on your computer at the factory, you won't get it to bbot as it doesn't have a complete program on it, just an upgrade.

If I remember rightly the version of Alienrespawn that come with the original M17x had quite q few bugs, that DVD upgrade was suppose to fix it.

Check and see if you still have the recovery partiton on your HDD.

Hit start>Control Panel>Change view to small icons>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management.

Check the window in the middle at the top, if you see something there that says "system recovery reserved" or "recovery" or something close to that (It will probably be around 6-10GB in size) then you should be able to reinstall Alienrespawn from the website.

If it's not, then your out of luck

The model is R1 however you are wrong about the contents of the DVD.

In my manual, says

QUOTE

AlienRespawn v2.0 Disc
If you ordered the optional AlienRespawn v2.0 disc, you will receive it along with
your computer. This disc will allow you to re-deploy AlienRespawn v2.0 to a new
hard drive in the event of a hard drive failure.
To Use the AlienRespawn v2.0 Disc
NOTE: The Alienware recovery system is set up to boot from your CD-ROM
drive. You can verify through the Boot Menu hotkey (see "Boot Menu" on
page 38) that your computer is set to boot from the optical drive.
1.
Insert the AlienRespawn v2.0 disc into your optical drive.
2.
Turn on your computer (if the system is currently in Windows, restart).
3.
Your computer will automatically boot into AlienRespawn v2.0 environment.
If no recovery partition is detected on your system, AlienRespawn v2.0
will proceed directly to the Complete Recovery option, restoring your
system to its factory-shipped state.
If an existing AlienRespawn v2.0 recovery partition is detected, you will
be prompted to choose to run the recovery process from either the hard
drive or from the disc. Running from the hard drive is recommended;
however, if this fails, running from the disc may resolve the problem.
Whichever you choose, the recovery options will be the same as those
described in this section
UNQUOTE
However, as I said, I am unable to boot from DVD.
If while into Windows I insert the DVD on the drive, then the DVD appears as 'blank' - Have tried the same on other pcs with the same result.
So, something is really wrong with this Respawn DVD.
Well, to use a partition recovery software in order to find my lost partition may be one solution (since the respawn dvd isn't working)
However, I would need something (like a gif image of the directory) to show me the structure of the original drive, with the files contained therein,
in the windows partition and in the respawn partition. Do you think I would ever have the chance to find something similar?
Maybe another fellow Alienware onwer could help me on that....
Thanks anyway for the attention.
