Alienware 17 Battery Failure

I own a Alienware 17 laptop.  When turning on my computer I receive an error code stating permanent battery failure.  This also happened a year ago and the battery was under warranty so it was replaced.

The woman at technical support I talked to today stated that the battery is only expected to last a year before it needs replacing. Then she went on to say that there are no batteries for this compute in-stock.  Is this true?  The batteries are only expected to last a year?

The computer is two years old and its second battery just died.

No need to unplug the battery.

Dell actually provide a tool to prolong battery life, but it is disabled by default (at least, it was on my 17R3).

Right-click on the tray battery icon, select "Desktop mode battery charge" and take it from there.

Here is the Laptop Battery FAQ. Based on the hardware, the life of an Alienware laptop battery is far shorter than say a Latitude laptop battery. She was correct, we have none available for sale. The two batteries that shipped on the 17-R2 and 17-R3 are =
YKWXX (92WHR, 8C, Lithium, Sanyo)
5046J (92WHR, 8C, Lithium, Simplo)

Some sellers will list the mod number 6JHDV instead of the Dell parent part number.

The tool does not list that kind of data. All it stated was, "Available for Sale = No".

Thanks!  Does "none available for sale" mean they are out of stock or Dell just doesn't sell them?  If you are getting more in, when will they be available?

Chris,

I have my 17 R3 plugged in 99% of the time, does it make sense to just pull the battery to extend the life of it?
