Alienware 17. Permanent black screen after screen turns idle. Sometimes when booting?

Hey guys i've only got my new laptop since august and now experiencing problems when booting or after my screen turns idle i can't get it back on by just pressing a key. (which it should do normally).
Only solution i have found to put the screen back on after it goes off after being idle is to close my laptop so it goes into sleep mode then open it again.  This isn't the point though :(

I didn't find any solution for the booting problems, i always have to turn it off / restart with the power button which i don't like doing as it's not so good for the laptop i think. The boot problems happens about 50% of the time i try to boot.

The only thing i have done with my laptop is connect it to my tv with hdmi to watch some movies. In my screen options i selected to disable the laptop screen when it was connected to the tv. Now i cannot re-enable my laptop screen while connected to the tv for some reason.. In nvidia control panel i do see my samsung tv and my laptop monitor but i can't check on my laptop monitor? I don't know if it has anything to do with it but it's the only thing i can link to my black screen issue. Also when removing the hdmi cable my screen will stay black and i have to close my screen again so it goes into sleep mode then reopen it so my screen pops on again.

It's my first time owning a laptop it's kind of annoying having these issues now with such an expensive laptop and just brand new :(

Anyone has an idea what could be wrong? Is it possible it's something to do with the double monitor options?

I would recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver you can follow these steps

1. Start Windows and logon with an administrator account.

2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

3. Make sure View by Category is selected, and click Uninstall a program.

4. Select NVIDIA Drivers, and click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change.

5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstallation.

6. Flash the BIOS to the Latest version

7. Download the latest driver from the NVidia website.

8 Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Let us know how it goes.

Allright well it didn't help... I did discover something new though. So as i said before i couldn't enable my laptop screen anymore when it was connected to the tv and could not enable my screen through my nvidia control panel or windows display options. But just closing my laptop(sleep mode) and opening again lit my screen again! now i have image on my tv and laptop which is good..

I don't know if all these issues are linked to each other but i suppose it has something to do with it. I don't  have any knowledge about this so hope someone can help me out.

Cheers

I'm having very similar problems to the one you described on my new dell laptop (inspiron 7537). What I've been experiencing was a black screen after x amount of time of inactivity. The laptop remains on, but I can't wake up the laptop. What I did to temporarily fix the problem was actually what you have been doing, I close the lid and wait for it to go to sleep mode, open it up, and turn it back on. But that's not really a good solution.

I've done hours of research and managed to find something I thought would help. Which was press F2 on start up, and under the advanced tab, and enable "USB Wake-Up Support". It worked for a while, but I noticed it only worked if the screen was idle for a few minutes. Beyond 5 minutes, the screen would go black again, and wouldn't wake up.

At this point I don't know what's causing the problem, nor how to fix it although what I described might work for you.
