Alienware 17 R2 compatible ssd m.2 chips
I bought an Alienware 17 R2 with 256gb + 1TB and want to upgrade it to 512gb + 1TB. There are 4 m.2 slots and right now there is 1 256gb chip in slot 1. Since there are 4 slots, I suspect that I can add up to 3 more 256gb chips for a total of 1TB SSD. Right now, I only want to add 1 more chip.
I talked to Dell's parts folks and they say the L8H-256V2G -11 chip is not available from them.
3 question:
1: Do I understand the architecture correctly?
2: If I add a secong 256gb chip, will I be able to EXPAND drive C or will I be stuck with 2 256GB SSD drives?
3: Where can I get a compatible (or exact match) chip? (a google search didn't trurnm up a source).

Hi,
If you add a 256GB M2 SSD, you will not be expanding the C drive, the system will view it as an additional drive for storage. The C drive will only be on the primary drive where you installed Windows. You could try looking for the SSD on 3rd party online stores.

Hi,
When you say "chip", you mean the SSD right? The Alienware 17 R2 can support a 512 GB M2 SSD.

Thank you Rodrigo
Is it possible to remove the existing 256gb chip and replace it with a 512gb chip?
Thanks

Yes, I tried to use "chip" to avoid confusion with a SATA SSD drive.
I will buy a 512GB m.2 SSD
Thanks again for your help.
