Alienware 17 R2 (early 2015) AlienFX/Command Center color morphing issues?
I recently purchased an Alienware 17 R2 and noticed that while solid colors in AlienFX worked great, transitions between colors were jumpy and often incorrect. Some color transitions worked better than others, but all showed some degree of problem. The worst ones would show completely inappropriate colors during the transitions (e.g., when I set it to transition from red to green, it would throw in some whites and purples during the transitions). I sent a video of this to Tech Support and they arranged for me to receive a replacement system.
The new system arrived last week, and it has the exact same issue.
I'm either incredibly unlucky, something I'm doing is causing it, or there is a bug or conflict in the software or hardware. The new system showed the issue before I installed or updated anything, so I suspect that all 17 R2 models are experiencing this issue. I currently have CommandCenter 4.0.54 installed.
To replicate the issue in an obvious way, either use the attached AlienFX theme or set various areas to transition from RED to GREEN (the green I'm using is six spaces below the primary red on the wheel) and then back from GREEN to RED (i.e., #FF64F523 and #FFF00000). Choose extended duration for the two morphs, and apply it to the touchpad and alienware title on the screen to make it really apparent.
If anyone tries this or knows of a fix could you please let me know? Thanks!

Just received my 17 R2 back from Dell, where they replaced the motherboard but the issue is still happening. Can anyone with a 17 R2 confirm that this issue isn't just on my system? I created some visual examples to make it easier to replicate.
1. A screenshot of the settings and colors I've selected (a morph from green to red and back).
Other color choices show similar issues, but these two are a little more obvious than some.
The green is the one six spaces below the red. I applied these settings to every possible region.

2. A video of how the colors SHOULD look (according to the Command Center preview).
The transitions are smooth, and really only show variations of 4 colors -- red, orange, yellow, green.

3. A video of what my ACTUAL hardware shows with the same settings as above.
Notice the jumpiness and the white and purples thrown in (there should be no whites or purples when morphing from green to red).

If anyone tries this and can confirm or deny the issue occurs, please let me know? Thanks!

I don't have a 17 but I have the 15 and the exact same thing is happening to me. Morphing colors are completely wrong.

Have you tried setting the tempo to 4 and making the action duration 3.0 as my 17 also jumps colours on nearly every other setting its not extremely smooth but its better than random colours popping up everyhwere

Dude hate to break it to you but Alienware command centre is broken. and i mean really broken. it cant cope up with windows update and slowly breaks down. its alienfx chip gets corrupted and so on. I gave up trying to get help. I might still give to to dell for service once I get my spare laptop from home. Lets hope Dell acknowledges these issues soon and release a fix.

I haven't found any sort of solution, but I'm having the exact same problem when the action duration is not set to max - A black to green fade ends up starting on purple, then jumping to the green and then fades to white. Strangely, the fade out from green to black works perfectly.

It's annoying, you can only use certain tempos and action lengths...
This is inexcusable tbh, my old MSI laptops software worked flawlessly and the color transition was actually smooth.
Anyways set the tempo to 0.3s and the action to 2.0s that works for me with every action extended.

My A15 R1 also does this. It's just a really poor piece of software. My macro buttons on the side also like to randomly just come on really dim like they are on battery mode, although just pressing the toggle to toggle them through the presets fixes it.
Basically, it's just buggy, and it seems to be chronically so. There is nothing wrong with your laptop, exchanging it and having it serviced won't help, it's sad that they even directed you do that when nothing was wrong with it other than their own poor programming.

I am having the same issue, I got my new Alienware 15 and everything worked until I ran windows update. now my power button Light shows blue, purple, yellow, white, pink(in that order) when its supposed to be blue and yellow.(while charging) The only way to make things look nice is to keep it all solid, which I was hoping to make a cool light show out of my keyboard, but this issue is here and ruining my day and most likely many others. I wish that dell would at least tell us that they are working on this issue.
