Alienware Aurora circa 2010 Clean Windows 7 Install problems
Hi,
This is my first post in this forum. I have been working for days on a clean install for my old Alienware Aurora purchased in 2010. It is out of warranty.
The factory image is no longer available in Alien Respawn, probably from a previous reinstall.
Anyhow, clean installed Windows 7 professional, added the drivers using the resource disk. I am showing an unknown device USB on my device manager. I don't know what this is, all I have attached to it right now is the monitor, keyboard, mouse, wifi.
No other information on it when I click on details of the device, attempting to install a driver for it, will just give me an error that it failed.
I can't get pass installing the rest of the software or windows 7 update. If I do, it will start to lockup and give me BSOD.
Since I am a newbie at this, any help will be appreciated as to where to look.
If all else fails, thinking of getting it to an Office Depot to have them do the clean install but am rather apprehensive that they may not know what they are doing (Alienware specifics). Would it be better to go with paid Dell support?
Thanks

I did run it twice. Then installed Alien Autopsy for good measure to check the system. That is when it froze.

Run sfc/scannow again. No problems found.
I downloaded HWMonitor and this is what it shows: Is it normal to have fans run 100%?

HW-Monitor temps look fine.
However, the APC's USB cord should not be connected if you are having problems.
Good to see APC. Use power part but not USB part. In fact while installing Windows and trying to troubleshoot this problem, only USB KB and Mouse should be connected. Make system as basic as possible and only move forward one change at a time.

I was wondering what that was. I always thought it was for WIFI. :)
Anyway, the saga continues. Ever since the tech first installed Command Center, things just got worst. Now the fans are acting wonky. Even with Command Center uninstalled, the fans are still constantly going.
Yesterday, with just that monitor software, firefox and irfanview installed, the computer once again froze at windows logo. I had to cold restart it and restore to former settings.
Now it is striped again to just firefox and the internet. The fans are still going.

Update.
My Aurora R1 is now a very expensive door stop.
After Alienware techs installed Command Center, it shows nothing about the CPU information. Cooling pump says "Failed" and no other info about the fan or temps.
No lights on the CPU, only thing you can control are the lights on the keyboard and mouse.
Other techs have given up on working on it, they say it must be a hard ware problem but can't seem to figure out which.
So, I've given up on this. What is the best way to dispose of this machine? Gut it up and sell the parts separately?

What country are you in and when does the warranty expire?
