Alienware Aurora R2, onboard NIC issue
Hello,
I am in trouble. Can not get my Aurora R2 back on internet.
I have been trying to create a multi boot pc. Now I have win XP on c: drive, and Win 7 Home premium on D: drive.
Both installs was okay, no problems. But I was not able to connect to internet with Win XP, so I consulted my friend "Google"- and I got the impression, I needed "Intel_Chipset-software-Insta_A00_R244220" from a website, so, I downloaded and installed. Hmmm, now non of my windows installs will connect to internet.
I think, I understand now, chipset driver is not installed on HDD, but into components on motherboard. Is that correct ?
Anyway, I was adviced by DELL-Chris to download my original chipset and realtek drivers and install those.
I did so, I downloaded and installed:
Chipset_Intel_W74_A00_Setup-77PYF_ZPE.exe
rebooted pc
Downloaded and installed.
Realtek_RTL81XX-PCI-E-Networ_A00_R258186.exe
rebooted pc
But still, no progres. No internet connection.
I notice to day, when Win 7 boots, before enter password, leds, green and orange, are flashing, next to cable from routher. But when pc has started up, there is no lights in leds anymore.
I am affraid, this is more than I can handle on my own. Does anyone have some good advice for me ?

Hi,
If you open Device Manager, do you show something with the yellow exclamation mark? Make sure to check in the Chipset and Network Adapters category,

Checked. All looks fine. No yellow at all. If I click properties on network or chipset, I get a measage, something like, "This unit works correct". (in Danish launghed).
EDIT.
All fine for WIN 7 , but Win XP has 1 yellow marker,....High Definetionaudio-bus.

Hi,
Thanks for confirming this. So when you connect the Ethernet cable, nothing comes up on the screen about the network? Does it have a red X on the network icon? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode with networking to confirm if it lets you connect there?

Hi,
Yes, I have the red X on networking icon.
And if I run diagnostic for network, it says,... no cable connected. But cable is connected. I even tested with 3 different cables. And I tested cable on other port in routher too.
As I said before, led´s only flash when pc starts booting. When boot is finish, no more light in led´s.
Now I have tested, "booting into Safe Mode with networking", I still get the red X on network icon.
EDIT.
I can also tell, I have a SSD drive installed with win 7 - If I remove my HDD and connect my SSD and boot up, problem is the same.

I assume this is XP-32 ... so you will need 32-bit (XP) drivers. I doubt you will get them from Dell since the Aurora-R2 shipped with Win7-64bit ... Windows-XP Update maybe if it still works.
My Dell-M65 tri-boots, but it's older with native XP drivers. Got lucky with the 64bit drivers for Win7, Win8, Win10 etc.
Not sure what you are doing here. IMO, you should look into running Virtual-PC, XP-Mode, or one of the other VT solutions ... with Win7-64 as main/native or Host-OS.

Thank you for answer :)
But I better tell again, problem is, ....I can not get my network/internet working again, after I have installed wrong chipset driver.
I have installed the right one again, but my network/internet connect still don´t work.'
What can I do ?

Okay, ...I found and followed this gude: http://www.playtool.com/pages/chipsetdrivers/chipset.html
I now have the correct/newest chipset driver installed.
And PC has a total fresh install of Win 7 64bit
But my problem is still the same. No networking !
What can I do more ? Any advice for me ?

Good.
Chipset drivers should be first driver installed after Win7 clean-install finishes.
Is the NIC active in BIOS?
What is the Hardware-ID of the Device?

okay, problem solved !!
I bought another "Master I/O Control Board" - and I was online as soon as PC had started up.
BUT,..... now, almost every fan in pc runs full speed all the time.
Maybe I bought another defect "Master I/O Control Board" on ebay :(
Any ideas ? Is there any options to control the fans ?
