Hello, if it is still under warranty then you will be able to without any problems, the early model M11x's had known issues with hinges breaking.

Even if it is out of warranty you may be able to do something about it, it depends what the consumer protection laws are like in your counrty.

For example, in Australia Dell would have to replace the hinge's even if it was out of warranty as there is a known design flaw in the hinges

Hope this helps

No, but I've had something similar with a Dell precision and Faulty videocards and untransferable warrantys, and I won those two :) :) :)

By the way AU Civil appeal is good, cost $20AU to go and you can sew upto $20,000AU and no lawyers are allowed

Have you ever taken the M11x hinge issue to court or heard from a user who did?

If not, then you are assuming the information your posted is correct. According to our Legal teams, your incorrect.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned Dell should "do the right thing"

Everyone involved with Alienware knows the massive issues the M11x had with the hinge not only breaking, but the plastic internal screwdown connections for the hinges absolutley disintergrating, if this guy does have the same problem that has been documented worldwide then is should be fixed regardless of the items age

Haha, sorry Chris, I hate to disagree with you, government law in australia over-rides any so called "world wide agreement"

It even says so in the Dell terms and conditions that are issued with a new Dell computer is Australia, something along the lines of:

These are our (Dell)policy - Except where it contravenes local or government law.

If you dont believe me, look it up yourself......

Consumer protection in Australia is very good, the word used in the legisaltion regarding this sought of thing is "reasonable"

So it is "reasonable" to assume that after all the trouble Dell has had with the M11x hinges, (very well documented worldwide, i might add) that other M11x hinges will fail, as it is a "Manufacturing and/or Design Defect".

Because of this reason I can absolutely garantee that you would have it fixed in australia if you either took it to consumer affairs or civil appeals tribunal

Can't speak for other countries, but if you pushed hard enough in Australia it would be fixed - 100%

AndrewSi,

* Incorrect. The policy I speak of is "worldwide Dell policy". This policy has been agreed upon by all Dell Legal Teams worldwide. Once past the 1 year grace period, you will have to purchase the parts "LCD Assembly (includes hinges)" and have a local technician do the work.

Here you go Chris, this is a copy straight from Consumer Affairs Victoria (Victoria being a state of Australia)

It states, "You may be entitled to a repair.". It does not state you will be entitled to a repair. Your communications state that they will which is misleading.

Fine Chris, I dont have time to argue simantics with you, the government only use the term "may" because they do not know the full circumstances behind the claim you may lodge, if it fits the criteria that is used in the example then it will be fixed

If you really want me to I can go and find more information on their website about Manufacturing defects and faults

As i said in my previous statemants.

Dont presume to know the laws of a country you live 10,0000 miles away from, as I would not be so RUDE as to do it to you.........................

Dell should do the right thing as it a Manufacturing fault.....................................................

So to recap, this so-called "world-wide agreement" you were spuking about now seems to be in question as it contravenes local law

WELL I SEEM TO REMEMBER SAYING EXACTLY THAT

Australian Law cover manufacturing defects 100% - Regardless of some imagined or supposed "world wide agreement"

And the example they used in the above snippet is quite appropriate dont you think, they mentioned an overpriced Television, so that not sound on par with overprices laptops and desktops

Maybe thats why the australian m14x is nearly $600 more than in the US.  Base models of course.  Your legal system makes dell fix things that it doesnt have to in other countries.

But, I know nothing of the legalities of this, or even how to spell legalities... I think thats right.

>kameix1 - You could well be onto something there, I did not consider that and it makes a fair amount of sense when you take into consideration that the Australian dollar is stronger the US dollar, at one point in was over 20% more than the US dollar but the price for Alienware has never changed here

Good point.....

Hi thanks to all for the quick response. But i think regardless of any national law it is still humane to say that what has been poorly done be undone. And DELL at this point believe that theres a flaw regarding their hinges. It just make me sad that alienware is at its time is one of the expensive laptop here in philippines but still a lot of  faults. I wish they will repair my hinges since i gave to Our local DELL technician since last year but they keep on insisting that they cannot do it :( im so sad :( i wish i can still avail the advantage posted on the previous blog
