Alienware M11 X hinge issue

I am based out of Bangalore India and purchased an Alienware M11 X, within a few days I started to have the" hinge problem" with both the hinges opening up. Dell replace the LCD screen 3 times so far for the same problem.

What is really suprising is that DELL INDIA do not want to acknowledge that they have a problem with the hinges on there Alienware systems ? The net is full of stories about the hinge problem and yet they do not want to acknowledge that they have a problem and put the problem as "system damage because rough use by the customer"

 When I sent them a posting by Chris M one of the moderators on the discussion panel the tech dept in DELL India has no idea who Chris M is..........strange.

I would be obliged if Chris M will email the tech dept in Dell India and apprise them of this problem : is the person that needs to be contacted.

I do hope this can happen Chris........... by the way we pay 30% more of the same Alienware system in India than in the U.S.

Thanks

Ibraiz

Ordered the m11x r2 i7 640UM on the 18th of Feb 2011 (I'm From Australia)... At the time I didn't know about the hinge issue etc.  After going through this forum, I feel a bit scared to get it and decided to wait for the new hinges to be in place.  So I called them up today 21st of Feb 2011 and canceled my order. Which I think Chris mentioned sometime in March (Which is only a few weeks to a month away)

I have a question, when the new hinges are in place for the r3 and it comes out.  Will the whole laptop also be redesigned as a r3 model (ie upgrade cpu, gpu etc)?  Or will the m11x be the exact same configuration in terms of cpu, gpu etc like the current r2 but with a fixed hinged design?

Any comment on this would be appreciated (Thanks Chris)

thank you

I'm  another owner of a M11X with hinge issues. First of all I only bought mine mid January, so even as of then they were manufacturing them with the bad design. Not 3 weeks of average use the right hinge split and now the panel doesn't line up right. I also have keyboard marks on my screen. It's ashame that we spend this type of money 999.00 in my case and get garbage. I own a Asus netbook that gets beat around in my daily travels and it has never had an issue of any kind, and that was a 349.00 unit. Noty that I'm happy about having a new laptop being taken apart and repaired but I hope it's done with a new hinge that doesn't fail again. I'm waiting till march to call for a repair.

* Nope.

* Correct.

Chris, How will we kow when the new hinges are being used? Tech support will tell you that the hinges being used now are the new ones! I want this fix done once, not again and again. Do we wiat until the R3 model is released to know for sure? I'm just leaving my unit open at home till it can be repaired.

When I know the parts are available to the service vendors, I will let you know. Until then, wait. Do not contact Support until I give the go ahead.

I just found this group. My 11X is not a gamer; rather, it is a work machine for high-level music editing and field data work.

I need a 100% reliable machine. Please accelerate this process as I need to go on the road and cannot have ANY problems.

I should note that I have had my M11X for nearly a year before the problem appeared. This is a measure of how gently I treat a "field" machine.

I have NEVER had a case problem before.

You should call into Dell tech support.  They do have some of the hinges (last I heard), but it depends on your machine (yes, even if it's a M11x).

Hello.

It is 3.29.2011.

I have been considering buying a M11x i7 laptop today. However, I have done a  bit of research and my concern is- if I buy a laptop now, before the hinge issue is resolved and the issue is resolved say a month from now. My hinges have not broken yet, but of course - at some point they will. Can I send in my laptop or have a Dell certified repair person come to my house and perform the fix or hinge replacement (whatever) - BEFORE I have the problem.

I would like to know. Otherwise, I would rather just forget about buying one or wait till a later date an by a newer model/version of the M11x.

I don't want to throw money away,

I bought an alienware m11 for my son  The hinge failed within the warranty period  However the screen cracked too  My son says the crack occurred when he tried to shut the lid, the distortion caused by the hinges being the cause. Sebastian at Dell has refused to mend the hinges because the standard repair is to replace the lid  Dell then recycle the lid  He says the cracked screen was my sons fault and as this affects the recycling of the lid has refused to mend the hinges. I have repaired the screen as a compromise  Sebastian still refuses saying doing the repair breaks the warranty even though screen working fine. He has refused to send on hinge repair parts which I have suggested. I think it is unfair that Dell refuse to repair an obvious fault because of the way they do the repair especially in a mchine costing nearly £1000.

Good day,

I bought this alienware M11x R2 last year from Hongkong. and brought it back with me in the philippines. I'm having the hinge problem right now. I contacted the DELL Service center here in the philippines which is Accent Micro, they are charging me an outrageous 20,000++ philippine pesos(roughly 480 US dollars) for it. Is it possible for the hinge replacement to be shipped directly to me instead? I dont mind paying for the shipping cost.

Thanks and best regards

Kit
