Alienware M14 heat issues

I just bought Alienware M14 and first thing i did is downloading HWMonitor to compare the temps with my old asus g75 laptop and here what i found:

1- When windows start up im getting around 70c-66c while the asus temps are 50c-45c.

2- After loading all the startup apps the idel temps for M14 are 60c -55c while the asus temps are 47c-45c"even after disableing intel turbo mode in the bois the temps are almost the same @ 57c-53c"

3- For gaming its even worse playing games like black ops 2 the CPU temps reachs 86c-80c. While the GPU is reasonable at 70c-64c.

4- Also at the left side where is the power button it's extremely hot even if the laptop is idel.

Are these CPU temps are normal for M14 that comes with i7 4700MQ processor?

As for the asus it make sense due to large air intake but i didnt expact that from m14 since it got haswell processor with all new Intel technologys lower power consumption save power and engery failed to keep the temps below 50c as idel.

Having used an m14x, m17x r3/r4 and many other systems, I can tell you that these are not normal temps. There is a potential that there may be problems with the thermal paste or pads, or with the fans or vents. If you feel comfortable doing so, I would recommend check the vents first for any dust or clogs, and also the check fan speeds to make sure they are spinning proper, and then, assuming heat is still an issue, checking the thermal paste and padding. Checking of the paste and pads should only be done if you feel comfortable with it, as further issues with the paste/pads can lead the further heat issues.

However, there is obvious abnormal behavior going on. Temps for the GPU should nto exceed 80C on normal usage. In fact, average temps should be <70C.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks for your post "PhoenixBennu",I might take it back to service center but regarding your comment about GPU in my case they didnt excceed 60c in normal usage but CPU temps reaching over 60c idle.

Definitely would recommend taking it in. The thermal paste and other parts need to be checked. Heat is definitely not a laptops friend.

The laptop has been send to service center before 5 days ago and they still didnt find whats causing the high CPU temps since every thing is working fine including the fan. as precaution they already ordered new heatsink among with new motherboard in case something is broking with the current heatsink or whaterver. They advise that i collect the laptop since the new parts will take time to arrive which i guess it could take up to 3 weeks since im in Dubai and the laptop has been out for just few weeks ago.

I am glad to hear that they are working to help get it fixed. I am sorry that it is taking so long for the issue to be resolved. I have been working on a similar issue since Sept with my m17x r3, and right now it has resulted in a need to replace the entire system, and I am waiting for about another 3 weeks for that replacement system.

I am fine with patience when it comes to work, my wife, my kids, and normal day to day stuff. However, when it comes to waiting for something like a replacement laptop, I am definitely feeling the strain. So, I know how you must be feeling. I hope you bear with it, and that the system techs can get your laptop working as it should be so that you can enjoy your system.
