Alienware m17x r1

Hi,
I have just bought a used alienware m17x r1
The specs are below
"laptop Nvidia GTX 260 1Gb graphics cards Sli x fire and Ati 9400 HD graphics. Twin sata drive bays with 250Gb main drive (2nd bay empty).Screen has Tru Color HD screen display of 1920 x 1200. Comes with face recognition software and is reset to original factory defaults but updated to all latest Window updates. Intel QuadCore Q9000 2.0Ghz (very fast) , 4Gb DDR3 memory. 250Gb hard drive with all original Alienware software, Windows 7, Office Word & Excel starter, HDMI, WiFi, Webcam, DVD-Rw, Usb , "
It was about £300 so I thought why not but then I did research and it find that I cant update to Windows 10 and the drivers aren't supported etc. I want to play leauge of legends, dota 2 ,minecrafthe, wow , style games not stuff like cod or racing or gta etc not console style games as I have a ps4.
My question is will I be okay with the specs I have or should I return it ? Also is there anyway of bring that laptop fully up to date ? Drivers or tech wise ? I never mod laptops so I'm new to it all

Hi sxf-11‌,

Windows 10 is not supported on this model, if you want you can install Windows 10 but with all the Windows 7 drivers (it should work, we have tested it) . Also is very important that you install the Windows 7 video driver from our website, since that one is the validated one (the Nvidia driver has a history of not working well with this model). So make sure you install this driver.

The configuration should work fine with the games you mentioned.

Is it worth keeping as will it not become worthless in a year or two as games update and may stop being compatible with these ?

honestly .. its far fr being able to upgrade or  update ..  its a 7/8 year old system pending when it was originally built .

i owned  4-5  M17x R1/R2 's they were great machines  but if you want to keep it i would advise learning to mod drivers and such to use latest nvidia drivers or it can be donwloaded at laptop2video.com (think its the site) since most games wont run on 7 year old drivers and will ask to be updated (just saying lol)

ram,  upgrade to 8 gigs (2 X4 ddr3 1066/1333)  add a solid state hard drive  maybe find a QX9300  extreme cpu(best you can get 2.53gig quad core ) and be done with it  also you have the ability to upgrade to  dual 5870's  for more power(ati cards , or 485's (nvidia) but i never tried myself  but it is known working upgrade but research on this would be your concern  since its been awhile since i have owned one.. (2011)

I would keep windows 7 , you will have less issues  along with the command center and OSD was known to have issues running on windows 10 , not sure if it was fixed being since most drivers on dells site for this machine are older then god himself haha ..
