Have you made sure the air vents underneath are clear ? I have mine tilted a little to avoid it but if its flat sometimes the heat causes a massive flow down.

How are you connecting to the TV ?

I just have mine from Samsung via Wireless for dlna, and with a vga cable for viewing.

I will see if that prevents the shut down then thanks.

Im using an HDMI cable to connect through to the TV. My Acer laptop hooks up fine with the TV.

I haven't tried using hdmi yet, due to the various problems people have mentioned with hdmi in mostly, I don't need it so not done it :P

If you don't have one, pick up a cooling mat/pad.. I use a CoolerMaster NotePal U3 which has 3 positional fans for cooling, so I have mine lined up across the top :)

So far so good, but dont you think it is odd that the design is flawed if you need to give extra space between the surface and the laptop. Well hopefull the fan i bought will cool it even better.

Ok update on that. Just shutdown while playing on a game, I have the laptop lifted off the desk now by about 1 inch. Surely it cannot be over heating still????

Install www.techpowerup.com/realtemp to test processor temps, see how far they go.

and http://www.gputemp.com/ for gpu temps, if you normally get 8 minutes play, stop the game at 7 mins and check the temp, this will help figure out if its temp :)

You could also try MSI afterburner http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm and click the K to start Kombuster which will push the graphics and run the temps up high.

What graphics card(s) do you have ?

Cool, you won't go wrong using the Cooler Master U3 with it as well, its almost a perfect fit.

The aluminium is always cool too which I've had mats before get crazy hot.

Have a play with fan placement, for me, there is 4 grills on the bottom like

[] [] [] []

I have the fans next to..

(macro key side) [] (optical drive side)

Those are the ones which feel the hottest, the fans cover the 2nd one a little on each side also I didn't wanna leave it out but they are focussed on the 3 X'd.

Try them out and see how it goes, may work better in another config.
