It would probably work, but I would get the GTX 660 instead. It's the highest validated card and it will work like a charm, you may need the 330w though.
thanks. one last question (i promise :) im not an expert on GPUs, so does the 650 have better graphics capabilities? ex: if the 545 runs bf3 on medium with 40 fps, will the 650 be able to run it on higher settings like high with a reasonable fps?

You'll notice a performance boost with the GTX 650, around a 40% maybe whereas the GTX 660 will give you a nice 200%+ graphics performance.
It depends on the game of course, but you can look for benchmark results on google and compare :)

thanks. so the 650 will work fine. i thought about the 660 but i dont want to spend close to $350 for that. will the 650 work with a 240w psu?

The GTX 545 uses 105 W at most, which means the GTX 650 should run just fine with it.
