Alienware x51 R2 CPU & GPU upgradable?

Hiya,

I bought an Alienware X51 R2 on the 12th of August in 2014.

My specs are:

Intel Core i5 4460k @3.20 GHz

16 GB RAM DDR3 @1600 Mhz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 (OEM) 4 GB DDR3

240W PSU

My question is can I upgrade my i5 to an i7? If possible, which one?

And to which GPU can I upgrade?

And will upgrades void any warranty?

The upgrades that you can make are the followings:

Processors

Intel I7-4770 3.4 GHz

Intel I7-4790 3.6GHz

Video cards

NVidia GeForce GTX 760

NVidia GeForce GTX 760Ti

And if you make the upgrade through the Dell sales department you will not void the warranty.

PS: If you upgrade both I will recommend you to swap the ac adapter for a 330w.

Ah thanks, thats what I wanted to know, I also saw a video online that it is possible to use the PNY XLR8 GeForce GTX 970 graphics card and it works without any problems in the X51, is using this card a risk?

you will need to upgrade PSU to the 330W model

i chose the EVGA blower...I think other people prefer it as well because it doesn't have coil whine issues

You might need to try it because we didn’t validate that video card.

will the Intel I7-4790k 4.0GHz  work as well?

not trying to overclock but for 20 dollars more i can get 400mhz more out of the cpu on the k's stock speeds.
