Alienware x51 R2 issue with microphone - very quiet
I recently purchased my alienware x51 r2 pc and it's awesome. Only problem I am having is with my headset. I have a razer carcharias that worked perfectly fine on my old setup. However, with this new alienware pc, my microphone doesn't seem to work. I have the level all the way to 100 and even have +30db boost which makes it barley audible. I also have the latest and greatest realtek audio drivers installed. I've messed around with nearly all the settings in the playback devices panel. At this point, I'm stuck and hope someone can give me a working solution.
Thanks, appreciate it!

Are you using the rear audio/mic jacks as seen below or the front jacks? Test both with the razer carcharias.

What operating system is installed? I see two audio drivers, one for Windows 7/8 and another one for Windows 8.1.

I tried both the front jacks and the rear jacks (ports 4/5) and the issue is the same.

I am on Windows 7. When I go to my device manager, I can see NVIDIA High Definition Audio and Realtek High Definition Audio.
Realtek Driver Version: 6.0.1.6844
NVIDIA Driver Version: 1.3.30.1
Says both have the latest version.

Hi Dproy!
Yes, that's the latest version. Try re-installing the Realtek Audio Driver (uninstall the driver from the Device Manager first, then download and install the driver from this link).

ey Naomi,
So I did as instructed and it didn't seem to work. I unistalled the Realtek Audio Driver using device manager. When installing the new downloaded driver from the provided link, it says it failed. When looking at the run log (this is the end bit, I can post the full log if needed):
Collecting inventory ...
Checking driver version...
The version of this update driver is equal to the currently installed version .

But after doing a reboot, I can see the Realtek Driver is back in Device Manager with the latest version.

I do not know if this will even install the X51-R1, but see if you can install/test the retail Realtek driver dated 5/21/14:
