Aurora R4 fan issues

I purchased my Alienware Aurora R4 about a year ago, but recently, the fan has been acting up. Any time the computer is on now, its fan is as loud as it is during startup, right before the lights come on. Seeing as the side lights no longer come on, I assume the computer no longer registers that its done starting up.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have been having the same problems with my Aurora R4. I've spoken to the support team and they've diagnosed the problem as a dodgy IO board. The technician should be visiting on Friday so I'll let you know if that is indeed the issue.

The methods the support team used to reach this stage were to reinstall Windows a number of times, reinstall the command centre about a dozen times, update all BIOS/Graphics/Alienware firmware, and then finally try and manually control the fan speed through the command centre (the PC isn't responding) and then finally ran the AlienwareAlienFXTester - it'll be in your C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center folder. My lights are stuck on blue - and the spurious temperature readings the command centre is reporting helped diagnose the problem too. My ambient sensors are at 0C, 0C, and 65C - whereas a quick CoreTemp check showed my CPUs running around 38-40C.

That said my issues first manifest themselves in a similar way to how you're describing your PC - the fans running at 100% before quietening down once the command centre is launched in Windows, the side lights occasionally not activating and a delay in response from the lights.
If you're still in the warranty period you should give the support line a call and see what they can do.

Just to provide some closure on my issues, it was indeed the I/O board. Had a nice chap come round to replace it today, system's back to normal again. I never realised our Auroras "breathe" when they're on the login screen before the Thermal Controller kicks in. That's a nice touch.

For clarification, this is the board that was replaced.
