Aurora R4 - Numerous Issues

Hey guys,

About 30-40 days ago I purchased a refurbished R4 from Dells outlet - for 3 of those weeks I was away so the machine was unused, but now that I've had time to spend 2-3 weeks using it I've noticed a few issues.

First issue:

When booting from a power off state, "Starting Windows" lasts an incredibly long time, initially it took 20-30 seconds, next time say .. a minute, following this pattern the time has esculated to the point where today I spent 15 minutes sitting waiting before decided it can't possibly be working right. Pulled the plug as it refused to power off via the power button being held down for prolonged periods of time. This initiated a startup recovery, which got Windows to launch this time, though still a 3-5minute wait time.

The splash art doesn't freeze, the glow behind the microsoft symbol can be seen to vary in intensity.

Issue 2: DVI-D slot

I've a GTX 770, two functioning monitors (I've rotated them on the functioning slot to ensure its not a problem with them) and the correct adapters. (VGA>DVI & VGA>DVI-D)

When in screen resolution both screens are detected, I am able to make either of them the main screen and it updates accordingly; though whichever monitor is plugged into the dvi-d maintains that is is receiving no signal. I've attempted lowering the resolution of both screens to ensure its nothing of that nature despite knowing both support 1080.

Issue 3: USB devices frequently disconnect/reconnect.

Started off as only being noticeable with my WIFI Usb, every little while it will drop the usb momentarily and instantly pick it back up. Though now the same is happening with my external HD and any USB-drive I plug in. Mouse + keyboard is unaffected.

I've attempted using the Dell Diagnostic though it frequently causes my wifi usb to lose my connection, breaking the repair process.

I'd really appreciate any support you guys throw my way.

Regards,

Jay Lawrence

Excuse Issue 2 - just found the answer to that one; trying to run analog through a digital portal. Complete spoon.

Hello MrJuzah,

To tackle your first issue:
Are you booting off a Solid State Drive or a regular Hard Disk Drive? (Just to have an approx. of what would be your average boot up time). Second, I would recommend defragmenting the bootable disk.  Also, are you running on Windows 7 or Windows 8?

Second Issue (The USB Devices): Have you tried updating the computer's BIOS? If not, re-install the USB Driver. You can find it here. http://dell.to/1raw5VB
