Beeps on POST and low FPS
Greetings,
My lovely son bought me an Alienware X51 R2 for Mother's Day. It arrived on this past Saturday. Upon installing all drivers and programs, I downloaded WoW on Sunday and logged in. It was BEAUTIFUL...for about 45 seconds...then my FPS went down to 15. I troubleshooted (as well as BIOS, drivers and Win8 updates) for the rest of the day, to no avail. My symptoms:
-A single beep on startup. I can't find the beep codes for this BIOS on the internet, so maybe someone here knows. I only mention this because my son has the same system which doesn't beep
-System runs great, until I load a game of any sort. I've tried WoW, Rift, Bioshock and Guild Wars.
-Temperature gets high...FAST. 103 degrees Celsius when I ran Furmark. There are a few articles claiming the graphics card runs hotter than average...but that just seems way too hot to me?
-Fans work during the Alien Autopsy tests, but don't seem to kick on when they're actually needed.
Things I've tried:
-Updated BIOS and drivers from this website straight away on first bootup.
-Factory reset the OS and again reinstalled updates from this site, then updated OS.
-Ran the Alien Autopsy tests as well as the Dell online tests...everything came up as working just fine.
-I ran the Furmark 15 minute test, during which the temp hit 103 degrees at it's highest, but the system crashed 7-8 minutes in.
-I even tried a different surge protector and wall outlet.
Any ideas? I didn't bother cracking the case and cleaning simply because it hasn't been here long enough to get dusty or grow a replica of my cat in the vents yet :)

I found the ePSA test info a bit ago and ran it, but it didn't find anything wrong.

I've filled out two Customer Support requests since Sunday as well as started this thread...no responses at all. Am I going about this the wrong way and, if so, would someone please point me in the right direction? At this point, we'd rather send the computer back for a refund...this is very disappointing.

Hi efis829,
As you said yourself, 103 degrees is too hot for the video card and is most likely the cause of your FPS drops and crashes. I would like to review your case further and for that, I need you to send me a private message with your Service Tag and contact information.
Just to clarify, the Beep Codes are a repeated number of beeps that indicate a hardware problem when the system doesn't reach POST. One single beep at start-up is not part of the Beep Codes and it doesn't indicate a hardware failure.
