I don't think it's the drive, considering it worked fine before you got your new system. I agree that it's probably the motherboard firmware. If there is an update, it should be in Windows Update. Check the wiring and make sure that the power cord to and from the motherboard to the drive is firmly in place, and the connector to the drive from the motherboard.
I bought and installed a lg bd in my aurora and it also suffered from stuttering. I tried many different things(including various softwares). Someone reccomended uninstalling the dell data safe back up program. It worked. All movies in powere dvd 8 are stutter free.
