Changed Msconfig Settings, X51 won't boot

Yesterday I was having trouble with a game that was running poorly on my X51. Following a suggestion on another forum I opened up Msconfig>Boot>Advanced Options and set the core value from 1 to 4 and set the RAM option to maximum memory. I was then prompted to restart so I did so my computer thinking this would improve performance on my pc, now pc is unable to boot up. The cpu fan starts up followed by the usual beep but nothing displays on my monitor, I've started it up over a couple dozen times only to get the same result, reading a couple of forums with similar issues stated that A. This was a bad idea, and B. I need a windows installation disk to reboot my computer, which I've inconveniently lost. Any help or suggestions would appreciated

I've fixed the problem and my computer is running normally again. I'll post a truncated description of what I did in case anyone else makes the same mistake as I did.

  1. I connected my display to the gpu via dvi as it defaulted to that as the primary display device
  2. I booted my computer and waited for it to load the system recovery menu, it first tried to start up windows before crashing.
  3. I went to command prompt and entered these commands to reset the cpu and memory values I changed in ms config. bcedit /deletevalue {default} truncatememory and bcedit /deletevalue {default} numproc, then I hit exit and restarted windows.

Here's a link the the video I followed describing everything I mentioned above:

Try Safe Mode.

If you get in, undo your changes.

I can't run it in safe mode, it doesn't even make it to the startup screen. I've posted a low quality video to better illustrate my problem.

restart your pc w/the win dvd in the dvd; boot into it, & try to repair computer w/an earlier restore point I'd say, as a 1st step. Report back

Nothing happens, regardless of  how I boot it nothing is displayed on the monitor. If something is happening on my computer, its ignoring my monitor. I tried plugging it in to my tv only to get the same result.

I've made some progress. After my last post I realized that it was an issue with my display that was preventing from seeing anything. I disconnected the hdmi cable from the motherboard and ran a dvi-hdmi cable from the gpu to my tv. The alienware logo showed, and I hit f12 to go to the system menu. Now I am running system restore and am waiting to see what happens next.

Unfortunately system restore did not work

The problems been fixed and is running normally again. Here's a description of what I did incase anyone else makes the same mistake I did:

  1. I connected my display to my gpu via a dvi cable (I have a gtx 555 so my options were dvi or mini hdmi).
  2. I waitied for the system recovery menu to load, this happened after it tried to load windows 8 and crashed.
  3. I went to advanced options and started up command prompt. From there I entered the command bcdedit. I then entered in the following commands to reset the memory and processor settings I changed in msconfig. bcedit /deletevalue {default} truncatememory and bcedit /deletevalue {default} numproc. I entered exit and restarted windows.

I'll post a link to the video I followede describing the simple process I described above. I'm glad this ordeal is over with, I just wish it hadn't taken two days to figure this out.
