Customer support question regarding replaced machine

I purchased and Alienware Aurora in May 2010 and immediately (6 days after the initial boot up) started experiencing crashing issues.  After numerous calls to technical support as well as a post on these forums the machine was finally replaced in June 2012.  I was told on the phone that the new machine would be similarly spec'd to my old which I would expect.   After recieving the machine I quickly realized that "similar" must be a very subjective word.

**My old computer had 18GB of RAM installed (6GB were purchased with the machine and an additional 12 GB were purchased a few months later from Dell in order to upgrade).  The new machine came with 8GB of RAM.  I realize that 8GB is nothing to sneeze at but I cannot run my virtual enviornment without a minimum of 12GB (8GB for small buisness server 2012 alone) which is why I had upgraded the RAM in the original computer in the first place.

**My old computer had a PCIE WLAN card with dual antenna that registered a consistent speed of 300 Mbps (this is referring to the adapter speed in windows.  right click the adapter and select "status").  New machine came with an WLAN integrated with the motherboard, registering speeds of 78 Mbps-112 Mbps.   I had to purchase a USB Wlan from Dell ($50) in order to get more consistent speed (now stays steady at 120 Mbps).

**My old computer had a PCIe TV Tuner installed.  This would allow me to extend my current DVR storage onto my PC and allow me to watch my DVR'd shows from my computer.   This was an upgrade I added to the original machine and paid about $50 for.  New machine just doesn't have this at all.

**My old computer had 6 RAM slots (3 x 2GB sticks installed in factory).  Allowing me to purchase the additional 4 sticks of RAM ( 3 x 4GB) and add it right to the machine when I upgraded.  The new machine came with only 4 total slots for RAM with a 4 x 2GB configuration from factory.  This means in order to upgrade to the 12 - 16 GB range I would need to replace the 4 current sticks entirely.  On the Dell website they are charging about $42 a pop for the 4GB sticks meaning I would have to pay nearly $200 more to get what I had already purchased with my old system.

**My old computer had room for expansion.  Despite having dual video cards, a PCIe TV tuner, and PCIe WLAN card I still had an additional 2 free PCIe slots to add more stuff to if I wanted.  The new computer came with dual video cards only and yet there are no further PCIe slots available (or perhaps not excessible due to the bulky dual video configuration?)

All I want to know is if Alienware is willing to or capable of making this right or am I going to have to spend even more money on RAM that I had already purchased?  The TV tuner and expandability is never going to be available, I understand that and just wanted to add those to reinforce my point about the subjectiveness of the "similar build".  I would also like to point out that I did indeed call Alienware support to see if this could be addressed over the phone.  I spent about 20 minutes on the line with a tech who was basically playing the middle man between my questions and the original support tech who assisted with the replacment machine.  After the 20 minutes she told me that the original support tech was too busy and would call me back as soon as he could.  I have been waiting over a month for that call back so I decided to post on the forums instead.

Well since this was buried in the forums within a week without so much as a response I decided to send an email to Michael Dell with the forum post pasted in.  I got a voicemail and email from "Shawn" on the same day I sent the email and immediately called him back only to be told that he is on break and will get back to you "as soon as he gets back", I then replied to the email he sent with my contact informaiton.  Nothing further from Shawn that day or over the weekend so I decided to call him back on Monday, left another message and sent another email.

Around 2pm Shawn calls and basically says all they are willing to do is either give a $100 gift certificate to the Dell store to help with the purchase of more RAM or IF I send back the old RAM I purchased for my original machine they will send me the equivalent for the new machine.   This sounded like the best option I was going to get but then Shawn checked with sales team and they told him the RAM for my model machine is not only not in stock but they have no ETA on when they will be ordering more.

This is beyond frustrating at this point.  I had purchased 2 machines in the last 3 years and planned on making further purchases but the customer service has been horrible to say the least and I just can't bring myself to continue doing business with Dell.  Pasted below are the emails I received from "Shawn" regarding this topic and my final response:

Shawn:

I tried calling you on your cell and it went to voicemail so I left a message. I checked with my associate from sales and they informed me that there were no memory upgrades for the R4 available as of now as they are out of stock and there is no ETA for it.

As suggested to you on the phone earlier today I can make an exception where you send the memory chips back to Dell and you will get a complete credit or I can send out a $100.00 coupon and you can use it to purchase anything of your choice from our Dell website.

Response:

Thanks for the attempt Shawn but I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. The downgrade in RAM was only one of the issues. My email had all the details.  I paid for a system that came with a motherboard that I could expand upon (additional PCIe slots, additional RAM slots). This R4 box will never have that and will always be limited.  I only wish they gave me a refurbished computer of my original model as it was great. At the very least the R4 has not had the same random crashing issue of my original computer.
