Droping FPS while playing on Alienware 17

Question

When I'm playing, sometimes occurs a sudden drop in FPS rate, at one moment is 60 FPS,  and another it falls to 14 and stays there for a time of 10 to 20 seconds before returning to normal. I can't play FFXIV or Dota2 well because this greatly harms my game.What could it be?
