Hello everybody. Got new laptop allienware R4 17. Now I have some issues with gradient/banding. Tell me please how to fix it. Is there hardware or software problem?
On the pictures and in the games I see problems with the gradient. There are some circles and strange transitions of colors, hardly noticeable bands in pictures but they are. Especially in the sky, on a light gray background, black tints looks a bit green even in high resolution pictures.
Here is the better explanation of my problem (from another forum)
"I noticed a strong "color gradient" or "banding" issue where on images, some videos, and various colors within gaming looked almost like a paint by numbers photograph. The gradient/banding was so distracting that I knew something wasn't right. The display seems to be stuck in 16-bit color depth instead of 32-bit with a “color banding” effect. Here is a description of what I mean by that. If you are looking at a high resolution image of, say, a beautiful landscape with a big blue sky where the horizon is a very light blue at the bottom and the top of the sky is a very dark, deep blue. The transition from the light blue at the bottom of the image to the dark blue at the top of the image should be a very smooth transition. This laptop has a very visible color banding in the transition from light to dark blue. It should look like a high-quality picture in a magazine. What makes that transition smooth is the color depth. This laptop looks like it is stuck in 16-bit color depth. The thing is, Windows 10 doesn’t even support 16-bit color depth. I installed GTA 5 and noticed the same problem. Updating drivers did not fix the problem."
I don't know is it software problem or hardware. Not really happy to see such artifacts in games and even on my desktop wallpaper.
Thanks for your kind reply. Unfortunately, I don't have deep color option. (Latest NVIDIA drivers from Dell) I heard about the way how to solve my problem by changing output color depth from 8 to 6, but I don't have such option (even with custom resolution and low freshrate). My video card is 1070, I didn't see any BIOS for 1070 only for 1080. I have QHD display 2560*1440 120Hz.

First make sure the Bios is up to date. Then, perform a clean install of the video driver, open the Nvidia Control Panel and try this:
Or you can also go to Change Resolution (also on the Nvidia control panel) > Color Depth: check what do you have and try by changing it.

Yes, sure I did it. May be there is a problem with LCD? I heard about such problems in 2016
