Hinge broken, black screen, loud beeping
Hello community members, I've got the apparently extremely common problem of the M11x R2 hinge breaking apart. I bought the laptop in 2011 and only had it a year before the laptop completely broke. I haven't taken time to repair it due to insufficient funds and lack of knowing how. First the hinges started snapping (which at the time, I didn't know was common for this model) and I never dropped/damaged the laptop. I also knew that I didn't insure the laptop so I didn't think I could return the laptop to be repaired. Shortly after the hinges were breaking (I was very delicate when using the laptop from that point) the screen just completely went black. Now, whenever I try to power on the laptop will beep 8 times with a brief pause and continue again. I understand that there have been other posts like mine with similar issues, BUT -- what is the solution to my problem IF there is one? I don't have my laptop insured so I cannot ship the laptop back to dell for repairs. So, is it possible to fix this problem manually by myself? I am not that great with technology lingo and computer parts (although I'm willing to learn!) so if you have a solution, please try to break it down for me as much as possible!

Hi mate, eight beeps is not a good sign, according to the Dell/Alienware beep codes table that would be a LCD screen issue - BUT in saying that it could also be a graphics card problem as well, I have had a few Alienware laptops that presented eight beeps at startup and they all turned out to be graphics cards, despite what the dell webpage says, here is a link.

I'm probably going to get told off for this but, what country are you in?
The reason I ask is some countries like mine (Australia) have consumer protection laws in place to address this sort of thing, as this hinge problem was a VERY common problem with the M11x in my counrty it falls under whats called "manufacturing defects" which means regardless of weather it is still under warranty the manfacturer has to repair or replace it as they are the ones who released/sold the defective item in the first place.
I've had arguements with Dell reps on this forum from other countries trying to tell me I'm wrong about Australian consumer law and that they know more about the laws in my country than I do :) :) :)
So i strongly suggest you check the laws in your country - regardless of what the dell reps on this forum tell you
GOODLUCK
