Incorrect Catalyst version
Hey everyone,
To make a long story short I was encountering problems with ATI's official drivers so I decided to give the Dell drivers a shot and well I have a slight problem.
I uninstalled the official drivers via Programs and Features, restarted my computer then preceded to install the Dell drivers. Everything went well except the information center lists that I have Catalyst 10.12 installed still. How do I fix this?
Specs:
Alienware Aurora
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 x64
Intel Core i7 920
6gb of ram
ATI Radeon HD5870
500GB HD

No one?
I'm at wits end here since removing the official drivers and installing the Dell drivers it has exponentially added to my start up time.
I've tried uninstalling the Dell Drivers from the Programs and Features list, running Driver Sweeper 2.8.0 in safe mode then reinstalling the drivers normally with no luck. :(

Thanks for you reply C_ronic
Unfortunately reformatting is just out of the question I just have too many games on here and I'd hate to reinstall them all again. Do you have anymore suggestions?

When I got my Aurora and tried ATi drivers I was having problems myself. I got the Dell drivers and it worked fine. BUT I did not want the Dell drivers because they were outdated at the time. I did a clean format and now the ATi drivers work fine. I also did not reinstall the junk that came on the computer I did not want. My computer boots much faster and I have higher benchmarks. If you have time I would reformat.

UPDATE: Now I can't even uninstall the Dell/ATI drivers without this error popping up.

You should always either be ready to install Windows clean or re-Image using Acronis or similar. Sometimes Windows gets too confused. An old Restore Point might work (would be nice to see System Restore actually fix a problem
)
The problem might have been caused by you running DriverSweeper before you ran the ATI uninstaller and rebooted one time. If so, try not to do that again. Always run the real uninstaller (and let it remove what it can) before trying DriverSweeper.
If you insist on keeping this mangled Windows install ... try re-installing the driver packages you have been using and then using the ATI Uninstaller to remove them. Do them one at a time. Always reboot when asked to.

Ack. My first suggestion would have been driver sweeper. Try going into add/remove programs and uninstalling the catalyst. Then go into device manager and make sure you have the yellow mark next to display adapter. If you still see the 5870 in device manager right click it and go to driver tab hit uninstall. Then boot in safe mode run driver sweeper. Restart. boot in safe mode again open driver sweeper and make sure it did not miss anything. then reinstall drivers. You probably tried this already its pretty basic. But I figured Id say it just in case.

Next time use driver sweeper after you uninstall from the control panel add/remove programs followed by ccleaner use both programs in safe mode
