M11x R1 Unique Problems

Hello people. I recently bought the m11xr1 from a friend who did a re-install from the recovery and the lights went out totally. I bought it thinking it might be an easy fix but boy was I wrong..Anyways my problem is kind of unique. The service tag shows this unit was shipped out in April 2011 which sorta conforms with the recovery image made in August 2011. I again reinstalled from the recovery and the dreaded Command Center was already on the latest version for my model. Which made me think how could it corrupt the AlienFX board when my friend re-installed from the recovery?

Now coming to the weird problem, I don't have any unknown USB devices in the device managers list nor any errors from .Net I can change colors from CC but when I apply it nothing happens no lights anywhere whatsoever! I tried the AlienFx tester which reads my boards version to be 2.00.01 and upgrading to the same. I use to check the SDK folder in the CC directory and the the programs would report ' No AlienFx device found'. I read online to do a power drain with the battery, which I did and now all the programs in the SDK work as they should without any errors. Which means the Master IO board is been detected and communicated to but somehow ALL lights appear off. I don't know if I should do a clean re-install of the OS or open it up and check the main board? And does anyone even know where the FX chip might be located on the M11x?

Thank you for taking out time and replying mate :) I'll re-install the OS and report back here, hopefully the lights would come back IA.

From what you said I'm betting it will You tested everything and it's working. I'm sure you could get it working without an OS reinstall but since it's a new system for you and that there is a good chance something aint right with the recovery partition I see no reason why you shouldn't just delete it and start fresh.

Good luck and I hope it all works out

If it was my system I would delete the recovery partition and then install a fresh copy of Windows. Get a copy of the Windows 7 OEM .iso and put it on a bootable USB drive. If you use Windows 7 or earlier then you also need to install the .net framework 4 before installing the ACC.

It was working then he did a recovery and it stopped. You also did a recovery and it still doesn't work. My guess is it's something with the files in the recovery so I would delete it and get that extra drive space back. Even if you fix it now it still would mean that recovery on the partition is no good and using it again would cause it to stop working. I truly would delete it and start fresh.
