M14X Bad Left Hinge

Looks like my daughter has now joined this illustrious club of M14X owners who have suddenly experienced hinge/lcd cover failure uniquely on the left hand side. 17 months out and she can't open/close the lid. This looks and sounds like a manufacturer's problem - not just "normal" wear and tear.
