Hi, sound like either a intergrated video chip issue, faulty monitor or LCD cable, I think you need to insist that a tech comes out to inspect and repair(if you still have warranty)

thanks man! I guess I'll do just that!

manukamath23, AndrewSi,

We do not send onsite technicians out to troubleshoot. All they do is replace hardware that we have previously diagnosed as faulty.

A simple check to see if the fault lies with the video card or the LCD display is to connect an external monitor to the laptop. When the issue occurs, if the issue shows on the external monitor, the faulty component is the video card. If the issue does not show on the external monitor, the faulty component is the LCD display.

You can also run the PSA (Pre-Boot System Assessment). The PSA will run a low-level check of the following hardware devices:
System board
Keyboard controller
Hard Drive controller
Display
Memory
* Restart the system
* At the Dell logo screen press F12
* At the One Time Boot menu, press the Down arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, then press Enter to begin PSA Diagnostics
* Write down any error codes listed

I'm having similar issues right now as well. They're sending out a technician (whenever that is), in hopes of resolving the problems. However, right now getting the technician here seems to be a problem right now even with warranty.

Well mostly its the graphics card and not the cable or display. I just had my display changed and the problem is well under control but at the same time my usage also has come down to a lot. But its good they are sending a technician ... for me they clearly said they couldnt send a technician.

Well make sure you take enough time for the troubleshooting.

Whenever this issue occurs try swtiching your display to an external projector (even if its not connected) 'Window'+ 'P' then right side arrow and then hit enter.

If your display changes without problem to the projector then it might be a problem with your display or your card. the final way to check it is use it connected to a projector for longer hours .. eg... watch a HD movie or something or play games. If the projector also shows the same issue then it is definitely a problem with the graphic card and not your screen.

But before you do this make sure that its just a problem with your display and not anything else. I mean does other process keep on working on the background when this occurs?

I am attaching an image here just to confirm if its the same issue that you are facing1108.DSC00475.jpg

What kind of troubleshooting did you do? Or what was the process that you went through to fix the issue?

After reading about the PSA diagnostics, I immediately went to go do it however no errors showed up. I attached my laptop to another projector and the occurrences did not happen on the external projector. The image you attached looks identical to what has been happening to me as well.

This is not an issue that is predictible I suppose... for me it was always intermittent and it would happen anytime... sometime once in a day and sometime 7 to 8 times in a day... but all I had to do was change my display and the issue would go away.

I am guessing if the change in display can resolve then you should speak to the technicians accordingly

Then the video card or the video card cabling are defective.

I am having the same problem. My screen is discolored and fuzzy. I connected my computer to my television and the screen looked normal on the tv.

Curious, have you made any changes to the graphics settings.  Did you make any changes to the power Settings in regards to Graphics?   Does the problem occur when you are plugged in (theoretically when the graphics are automatically set down while on battery.)   When this happens, are the fans roaring, or put another way, do you look to see if it might be overheating.

Wonder if it might be from the computer resources doing an auto update while being online.   Have you looked at how much memory you are using?

Where did you get the Graphics Drivers you are using?   Did you get the Graphics Drivers from an auto update from M$?

How often do you reboot the computer from the beginning.

Anyone want to suggest a long extended use of graphics?

Doing hardware replacement might be the first thing to do. but good to build a list of things to look at.
