I have the same problem. It also locks up after I try and get it to come out of sleep mode. I have had to restore the laptop twice and still has not solved the problem.
I'm running the M15x Q720, GT 260 video, 4ghz ram. With Win 7 Pro. and the latest bios 5. All updates. Have been thru the headaches of the Studio XPs's and now with this. Whats the problem of just having a computer that works. Quess as a last resort is to do a full Windows install. Any suggestions Chris????
I would first check all the services running and disable them one at a time, go into sleep mode, wake it up until you find the device causing the lockup.
What do you suggest then chris as i havent put any programmes on the m15x its factory and there coming out slow i7 extreme x920 2.0ghz 8 ghz memory and a 260gtx graphics card and a 2.53 duo core is much quicker not bad for a very expensive paper weight
I haven't installed anything. All is Dells bloated junk. I have the same thing again. The Resource Discs would be great if they were readable. They are all scratched up and I just opened them up. Is this the type of service that Dell is giving everyone now. If it is, I think I'll go to a company that does care and doesn't try and MASS produce junk. This gives AW a bad name.
JUST PROVED THIS WITH A TECH SUPPORT GUY AND WHAT MORE CAN I SAY
i had the same problem with my m15x took 3 minutes and 45 seconds to boot from alienware/f2/f12 window spoke to tech support let him take command of my pc says its my software that ive put on KASPERSKY,ROXIO10,ACRONIS,DIVX, after he disabled them all m15x took the same amount of time to boot up 3 minutes and 45 seconds tech support says clean install in this order and time after every driver update
REFORMAT OS DRIVE, CLEAN INSTALL WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE, TECH SAYS 15 MINUTES TO INSTALL 38 MINUTES HOWEVER THIS WAS THE ORDER WINDOWS7 TURN OFF AUTO UPDATES INSTALL CHIPSET DRIVERS INTEL RESTART BOOTS IN 45 SECONDS INSTALL RICOH DRIVERS RESTART 45 SECONDS INSTALL GRAPHICS DRIVERS RESTART 45 SECONDS TO BOOT INSTALL SATA DRIVERS REEBOOT 45 SECONDS INSATLL FALLS SAFE SENSOR DRIVER REEBOOT 45 SECONDS INSTALL WIFI 5300 REBOOT 45SECONDS INSTALL INTEL 825 DRIVERS REEBOOT 45 SECONDS INSTALL BLUETOOTH WIRLESS REBOOT 45 SECONDS INSTALL SYNAPTIC DRIVERS REEBOOT 45 SECONDS INSTALL ITE DRIVERS REEBOOT 45 SECONDS INSTALL AUDIO DRIVERS 45 TO REBOOT AS YOU ALL CAN SEE THE M15X IS BOOTING UP 75% FASTER HOWEVER INSTALL ALIENWARE OSD AND COMMAND CENTRE TIME TO BOOT PC UP GO'S BACK UPTO 3 MINUTES
I HAVENT PUT ANY OF MY LEGAL PURCHASED SOFTWARE ON AS OF YET BECAUSE IVE JUST PROVED THE ISSUE IS WITH THE ALIENWARE OSD AND COMMAND CENTRE
TO BE HONEST WHAT DOES THE ALIENWARE OSD AND COMMAND CENTRE DO BECAUSE THATS THE THATS CAUSING OUR PC'S TO BE VERY SLOW
Remember i was told to do a clean install im currently running the dell 32 bit diagnostics checks should finish in about another 2-4hours just to see if theres any hardware probs before i reinstall the aleinware osd and command
I've tried doing the install already as mmentioned above. Done my homework and it metions in the specs of how to install the order of the software. But it would help if I had a good copy of the Discs to use. Have talked to Techs and they said the would send me new copied of them. Haven't seen them Yet. These copies I recieved are all screatched up and the zip files are coruppted.and useless. Even the Win 7 disc is having a proiblem reading. Plus I found out that I was sent a refurbished lappy instead of a new one. Whats with the the underhand dealing.?? All this has been going on since Feb.
welcome to dell thats the norm secondhand parts refurbished pc that people have bought realised there not that good sent them back and the likes of you i and most people on this forum dont realise its used personally at the moment the only good thing about alienware is the toll free number not like the xps number which has cost me hundreds maybe thousands over the last 3 years if it faulty it should be exchange for a new like for like however i got conned out of £857 to get my replacement with wrong parts in it so ive got all the hassle of waiting for the correct parts thanks dell should of realised with the 1st pc however what ive paid to upgrade to what ive got i couldnt get anything nowhere near you win some you lose but pretty much i think your onto a loser with dell

Test it doing some stuff without the OSD and Command Center and compare it to the old times.
