M17x Laptop Screen not working (stuck at black)

My screen has been acting up alot since I got my laptop about 4 months ago, going black for no reason but it was always an easy fix (tilt the screen to different angles, unplug and replug the power cord) but since this morning it's been black permanently.

I was able to hook it up to my TV with an HD cord which is how I'm able to write this post right now so it seems that everything else on the computer is working fine. Just the screen has gone :(

I still have four years left on my warranty but I'm quite far away from any Alienware centre (vietnam) any ideas for fixes ? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Hi,

It sounds like a loose cable connection for your LCD screen.  It's possibly a matter of checking the video cable connections and tightening them up.

It's not a simple procedure by any means, so unless you are experienced at computer repairs I highly recommend you get that system to the warranty repair service if at all possible.  There are many parts and connections you need to remove to get to the LCD screen.

If you choose to do this yourself Dell won't be responsible for any damage you may happen to make to the system.  You do so at your own risk.

Here is the user manual for the latest version of the M17x (check to make sure it's the same version of the 17x that you have before doing anything else) If you check out the section on replacing the LCD screen it will show you how you would normally take the LCD off that system and replace it.  You don't want to replace it obviously, but if you follow the directions it will show you where the video cable connection is.  You can check the cable to make sure it's making a tight connection between the LCD and the video card / system board.  Check the cable for crimping or any breaks, as well.

Make sure you read the safety instructions and follow all instructions if you choose to work on your system.

Again, I recommend that you take it to either a Dell warranty repair location or pay an experienced repair technician to do the work, so you are covered in the event of any issues that may occur, as Dell will not cover any damages from you working on the system.

Thanks Todd,
Are there any Dell warranty repair locations in vietnam and will they honour my warranty even though I bought this alienware in Canada ? Do you have any numbers or emails of dell or alienware support here in Vietnam ?
Thanks
