M17x r3 8 beeps
Well I have been without my system that I paid $3000 for only a few years ago for almost two months now, so I'm hoping someone here can help.
My issues started when my system completely shut itself off with no warning while gaming. I was able to power it back up and use it with no problem. Fast forward a few weeks to when it does it again. Again system powers up but 10 minutes later shuts off again and now gives no response. Power cord turns off when plugged in indicating a short.
I have since replaced the video card with exact same model, however when the system powers up only the lcd backlight comes on and I get 8 beeps. I've torn down the system and reseated all the lcd cables to no avail. I have also tried clearing cmos which causes 5 beeps. Powering the system off and back on at that point will cause it to light up, turn itself off then back on with a white backlit screen, ppeer back off and then back on with a black screen and finally start back to giving 8 beeps.
I'm at my wits end and have pretty much given up hope. Can anybody help?

Hi,
This sounds like a hardware problem, possibly with the motherboard. If your system is in warranty, send me a PM with your service tag for further assistance,

Swapped sith known good motherboard already. Was first thing I tried. This issue cropped up just after warranty ran out, of course. Given how much of an issue this is, I think I will steer clear of Alienware/dell in the future unfortunately.

8 Beeps is an LCD issue. This might also be an issue with the LCD connector on the motherboard.
You could try reseating the LCD cable and check if it works.
