M17x R3 charging problem
I am having a problem with charging my M17x R3 where it will only start charging when it is plugged in during sleep mode or off and I can then open my laptop and use it while charging. If the laptop is running and open the blue light on the ac adapter will shut off when plugged in and not charge. the blue light will then turn on for half a second sometimes and shut off but will never charge. I have used a similar charger for a different laptop and it does the exact same thing with that charger. please help I am unsure of what might be happening I just do not want to replace the motherboard which may be the only fix but hopefully not. Thank you.

It could be a motherboard issue but there are some procedures that you can try. You can try doing a power drain first. For this procedure make sure the system is off first and disconnect all external devices including the ac adapter cable and also remove the battery. Then hold the power button down for 1 minute (make sure the battery is removed when doing this). After you held the power button, connect everything again.
Another procedure would be flashing the Bios to the latest version. Click here for the latest Bios version download link. If your system already has the latest Bios, you can re-flash it but you would need to have at least 10% of charge left on the battery to even begin to flash the Bios, so if the charge is below 10% or 0%, this procedure will not work.
If the problems continue after this procedures, the problem could be with the input port on the system that you plug in the ac adapter to. Which would mean replacing the motherboard to have it repaired.
