Hi DMV820,
1. Update the BIOS.
2. Update the Video Card driver. Uninstall it before updating it. Find the drivers for your graphics card here.
3. Change the power management settings to balanced when disconnecting the AC adapter.
About the battery, here's an article with a few recommendations on how to improve the battery's performance.
