M18 Extreme Overheating

Are you sure your fans at the bottom are not blocked ?

I noticed my frame rate drop in Crysis 2, when looking I found my coolermat had come unplugged form the USB, which essentially meant, I had blocked the fans, and my machine was baking hot.

Other than this the machine runs hot but not killer. I'm still running crysis 2 on Ultra Settings at 1080p, longest session was 3-4 hour and no slow downs :)

I have my laptop sitting on a flat surface to make sure that the fan wasn't blocked.  I turned on a game  earlier today and the temperature meter maxed out. Then the fps issue happened again.

Are your fans running ? (maybe worth tweaking them in the cc).

Mine are very loud with a sort of vuvuzela kinda noise, which is factory settings.

Luckily I use beats pro headphones so don't hear it while editing or gaming :)

is your vid card the 580? If so there is a throttling issue once it gets past 70 something degrees and if that happens you will get slow down. What game are you playing? If its nothing to crazy and this is happening its most likely a bad thermal paste job. Either way call support asap before your 21 day return period expires. If you are past the 21 day mark then they will just try to repair it with refurb parts and that kinda sucks for such a new and expensive laptop.

I've only had for like 4 months. Any game will make it run hot, cooling pads failed. 520  vid card

well just call support then give them the max temps that you're seeing along with any abnormalities and I'm sure they will get a tech out to fix it asap. Good luck and get if fixed soon before it gets any worse.

Ok, i called  them and the guy i talked to said it was the game I was playing. This wasn't the issue at all if all the gamesI play Have the fps drop. What should i tell them or do?  -Sorry for late respond

That guy is an idiot who told you that. Not the right answer. Call again. This time you might want to talk to a manager or higher level service engineer. Unbelievable.

First I would install realtemp and see what the CPU is running at, you can download it from the internet and tell us what the temp readings are with normal use and when gaming. that will tell us if you have one problem or two. We can then help you by telling you what to say to them. This will show them you have done some diagnosing and there is a problem. If you can get some numbers for the FPSs when you first start a game and when the FPSs drop that will help also.

I just installed Real Temp and going to play 20 minutes of Crysis 2 with everything set to ultimate and see what temps I get, will post back when done :)

I did around 30 minutes play. 

CPU Temps

Tell them there is not really any change between CPU tempatures with normal usage & when playing games. Tell them that the FPSs go from 60 when just starting to play any games to 15 FPS after playing it for 10 minutes.

I think you have a CPU  heating issue that is making your FPSs slow down, but you could have a video card issue also.
