M18x CPU benchmark problem
I have just bought my M18x (manufacturer refurbished) with this configuration
i7 2820 QM 2.3 ghz with turbo boost to 3.4ghz
16 GB ram 1333mhz
ge force gtx 460
etc...
On the windows experience index benchmark and specifically on the processor test (calculations per second) i always get a 4.6 score while on all the other test i get 7.0 and above.
Now my alienware system came with windows 7 Professional (64 bit), i reinstalled it and still got the same results. I now just installed windows 7 ultimate and still get the exact same benchmark.
I have tried benchmarking with programs like passmark (performance test 64 bit) and still i get lower results than my previous laptop which toshiba qosmio 1 st generation i7.
What do you suggest ?

Hi
I am the one that started the post with CPU benchmark problem, sorry i have not replied sooner
The solution to the problem is ONLY a motherboard change and not a CPU change.
I had the CPu changed and still got the same results up until i had the motherboard switched with a brand new and it was under warranty so did not cost anything. Had my laptop back in 2 weeks. . I had a USA warranty and i had it switched to international warranty and DELL in Cyprus ordered the parts from the US and fixed it in a day.
I hope i had someone to tell me what to do from the start. i had a faulty alienware for 2 months or so
Hope this helps

Either the power supply is with problem either the motherboard. If when you disconnect the power supply and leave only on the battery (at 100%) the clock rises from 797MHz, then you have a problem with the power supply. otherwise the problem is with the motherboard..
,.
(if the power supply can't send enough power the Alienware will perform with the cpu at the lowest multiplier (this is a bios design issue and is deffective because at some situations it causes problem where there shouldn't)).
