My Alienware 18 Computer almost caught fire

I have had my computer for about 3 months. Every day it would be a struggle to get the power cord to register. I would have to fiddle with it and then it would still pop out. When it was not plugged in the battery life was pitiful.

Yesterday I plugged in the laptop and heard a pop. The end of my power cord melted and the inside adapter blew. There was a really bad smell of smoke so I unplugged it quickly. The power cord is now useless and when we took it to a repair shop they tried to plug in a new cord and it would not power at all. He said that the adapter had been damaged.

I was told the repair will be betwen $200-$300 plus I need a new power cord which is about $100.

I am really disappointed with this whole experience.

If you only owned it 3 months? is it purchased new? or used? if purchased new why haven't you contacted Dell for warranty in this time you had issues?

I bought it new. I have been traveling and just got home. I fully intended on calling them about the battery problems. Today I called and the call was dropped twice.

I have been reading on forums and chat rooms that the battery pack has not shown up as connected for others as well. I never imagined that I would smell smoke, see sparks and have these kind of issues.
