I have the R1, I reinstalled windows vista installed everyother driver before the display driver. Gpuz sstill shows Pci-E 2.0x16@ pci-e 2.0@x4 even when im running games, this is really annoying plz help me figure this out man.
PCI-E 2.0 x16 port #3In Use @ x4 (AMD Cayman/Antilles - High Definition Audio Controller, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 Video Adapter)
PCI-E 2.0 x8 port #7In Use @ x16 (AMD Cayman/Antilles - High Definition Audio Controller, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 Video Adapter)
PCI-E 2.0 x8 port #9Empty
Here are the pcie 1.0 slots
PCI-E 1.0 x1 port #1Empty
PCI-E 1.0 x1 port #2In Use @ x1 (Broadcom NetLink BCM5784M PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller)
PCI-E 1.0 x1 port #4In Use @ x1 (VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller)
PCI-E 1.0 x1 port #5In Use @ x1 (Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATARaid Controller)
I have tried EVERYTHING to make the first 2.0 x16 slot run at x16 but nothing worked, even when run a single card on the primary slot it runs at x4, is there anything else I can try? I have reinstalled windwos, tried different drivers, installed the latest chipset drivers, latest bios, and there are no options in the bios related to pci express. What else can I try? this is pissing me off. I couldnt install the display drivers from dell, they just wont install, I lost my windows 7 disc :(
Maybe you are coming up short of PCIe lanes from X58 chipset for some reason. Try disabling 1394 port and Silicon Image eSata Port. Do the above test again and make sure they DO NOT show up.
Might be a Vista problem ... this hardware was never validated on Vista. Also, your Vista is probably 32-bit and this hardware was only validated on 64bit. On 32bit and smaller address-able memory (3.0-3.5gb max) might be messing up video card resource allocation ... one is no problem ... two is a problem.
Dell has sent me replacement discs a couple of times before for free over the years. Call and ask nicely. Also, they used to have a form to fill out somewhere on the Dell site that I have used before (however, not sure if that works for AW ... maybe just plain Dells).
I dont think its short on pcie-lanes or an os issue because even when i run a single card, it runs at x4 on the primary slot. My vista is 64bit, it came with my system preinstalled and I had the same issue on windows 7 too. can you think of any other ideas?? I disabled those two devices but that didnt work.

Which Aurora do you have?
Aurora R-1 (x-58) = x16, x16
Aurora R-3 = x8, x8 (according to the manual)
All are PCIe v2.0
Have you tried clean install of drivers?

Windows Vista ? Why ?
The answer is likely in the other post I linked to. What drivers are you using?
