I'd like to know as well. I have noticed that the wireless card is pretty crappy in the x51..poor range and speed(150mbs) compared to my 300mbs I get on my usb wireless adaptor. I'd like to have 2 ssd in a raid 1(mirror) environment. I have not opened up the x51 yet to look at it and see if I have that kind of an option. Wherever I could squeeze the drive in would be fine. Thanks!
Hey sorry about the late reply, i never did put the ssd's in raid as i really wanted a raid 0 config for the extra throughput and after a bit of research into the mini pci adapter i found that it wouldnt really increase the performance much if at all. But for mirroring it might be a worthwhile upgrade as your not really looking for that performance boost.
As I understand it, the motherboard configuration prohibits this. You could install a RAID solution if the whole solution (hard and soft-ware) was connected to the X-51. It would be hard to place this inside. As it is, I have 2 SSDs in JBOD seen standard as two discs--which I effected by using the spare SATA jack, and then pulling out more power through the 6-pin port through an adapter (I can't remember what they call this).
No matter what you do, you can't pump more than ~255Mbps through the motherboard. The chipset maxes out here. Quite a dissapointment. Look it up on the Intel site: http://ark.intel.com/products/52806/Intel-BD82H61-PCH . You have PCI-II.
