RAM for Aurora R5

I've just bought an aurora R5, with the stock 8GB RAM. I'm planning to up it to 16 GB with a KINGSTON HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 PC4-17000 8GB CL14 (part number HX421C14FB2/8). According to the Kingston website, is compatible with the Aurora, but since this is my first PC (I've always used Mac), I want to confirm it.

I plan to install it in the third slot, leaving tthe fourth one empty for a future upgrade. Is this possible?

Thanks to all for your help.

They are 2,5" slots. And the R5 comes without SATA data cables for them. You have to buy these cables. The only 3,5 bay is the one located behind the power supply.

Well... i've just ordered the Aurora. It's supposed to arrive about december 20, but I'm planning a little ahead. :-)

The service manual, on page 64 has a matrix of possible RAM configurations 4+4+0+0 (factory configuration), 8+8+0+0, 4+4+8+8, 8+8+8+8, 16+16+16+16.

But it seems that other configurations should also be possible. For example; 4+4+8+0 (that`s what I want to do), 16+16+8+8, 16+16+4+4, 16+16+8+0...

Should the DIMMs be installed in pairs?

Should the DIMMs be installed in pairs?

For full speed and compatibility, dual-channel memory DIMMs should be installed in matching pairs.

I am also interested in purchasing an Aurora R5. Can you tell me the size of the HDD 2 and 3 slots? Are they standard 3.5", or smaller size slots that require notebook-size (2.5" or 1.8") HDD to fit properly?

Looking at this site www.myfixguide.com/.../  the slots seem smaller than standard 3.5. I have some HDD I want to be able to use in the new system.

Thank you!

Thanks @jlosada    Wow, that's a bit annoying. Is the extra inch they save really useful? the interior looks pretty cramped even with the 2.5 so does 1 inch make that big a difference? I would have to buy additional HDD and cables, not thanks.

Since we already had 8GB factory installed in our Aurora R5 we went for this two DIMM combo: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 PC4-17000 8GB 2X4GB CL14.

You can take a look at Kingston RAM selector:

www.kingston.com/.../search

It's really easy to install if you follow the service manual (page 61)

www.dell.com/.../Procedure

Caution when you remove the left cover and flip the power supply attachment to reveal the RAM slots: it turns, what not as smoothly as you would want.
